Aside from the driver seat looking like it needs a steam clean, very nice.
I have a friend with a 3rd child on the way and his wive wants to do the usual wifey thing these days and get an SUV. A Mopar-enthusiast friend of mine and I are trying to convince him that instead of getting a used large SUV, he could get a new Grand Caravan for the same money... and have a better vehicle on top of that.

The Durango has some delicious depreciation. If y’all are trying to convince the friend with a Mopar mindset, a 2016-era Durango Limited might be a better choice.

So how are these, reliability-wise? My parents have had a few GCs, and they’ve not fared well, but then again, they don’t treat their cars well.

When you look at the combo of space, fuel economy and other relevant attributes
, the Durango is inferior to the Grand Caravan.
Note that AWD/4wd isn’t needed at all in this case. Nor is towing.
And note that this is for someone in Canada where fuel is more expensive.

I’ve heard nothing but good about them. Plus we have 3 in the family, all of which have around/over 200k, in which the most expensive repair was a failed w ater pump on one at around 180k.
My family tends to be meticulous on maintenance but drive “hard”.
I’ve yet to have a Mopar that couldn’t make it well over 150k without major repair, and I beat the living hell out of my vehicles.

It was just lighting/angle that makes the seat look kinda grungy, its actually very clean!
I’m so happy my wife cares about actual functionality instead of this BS image everyone tries to adhere to. People sacrifice all practicality/economy for an image that quite frankly, doesn’t even exist anymore.

Yeah, the Durango is old fashioned when it comes to fuel economy, but the rest of the FCA lineup is, too. The new Compass gets mileage numbers that would’ve been decent for 2012, not 2019. I was under the impression that the Durango was an impressive vehicle for FCA.
I understand the new mentality, but the 2014-2016 Highlander is a good choice, too. It’s smaller on the outside, it still has decent cargo, and I can fit in all three rows with a 36” Inseam. Reliability is sure to be great, too. An XLE is new enough without being overwhelming, has a variety of features, and has decent fuel economy and power.

Delicious depreciation? I would have to disagree. My Durango with 86k, I could sell it for nearly the same as I paid for it 15 months ago with 44k. I think they hold their values rather well

Man I can’t imagine that was cheaper for the original owner than just putting up with the stow’n’go and leather seats on the GT

Based on other FCA vehicles (especially those Fiats), I thought these depreciated well, too. The ones I was finding were relatively new and under $25,000. Granted, they were mostly ex-rentals, but for vehicles priced higher like the Durango, I was surprised. Not Lincoln depreciation, but definitely more than Honda and Toyota.

It was not cheaper, but I know I’d rather pay a little more to get exactly what I want than live with stuff I don’t want.
If I’m spending money on a brand new car, you can bet your ass it’s going to be exactly what I want, otherwise I’m walking away, even if it costs me a little more.
